I have minimal diesel knowledge enough to get by

Former heavy construction/ag mechanic. Have variously fucked with marine engines. I don't know how to work on your civic.

Quick learner but generally donāt know shit. Could probably end up figuring shit out
Message permalink: 704489828741546055
Grew up poor. Hadda learn to work on my own shit. No good for super new stuff, but I got u on about anything else

Damn. Y'all making me want a project rig now. Not usually a Ferd fan but that's a sharp looking pickup. Probably way off but I'm gonna guess...'95?
Message permalink: 704499413761917029
97 actually. Last year of that body style for the -250ās. This one is a short box 5-speed 460 truck too
Message permalink: 704500069772296253
Yeah I actually zoomed in and looked at the grille and lights after I said that. I used to have a '97 but it was long bed and had the 7.3. Never should have sold that truck. Gotta love those old 460s though. Unkillable 7mpg goodness. You have plans on a build or just a restoration job?
Message permalink: 704500881634361465
Gonna swap in a Dana 60 front, shackle reversal kits front and rear for ~5-6ā of lift, and replace the cancerous sheet metal

Yet**
Message permalink: 704564888625872897
Got some welding certs while I was in highschool. Stick welding, oxy, and some Tig experience. I have a mig, but a monkey can weld with mig.
Message permalink: 704567525656231997
No certs but I can do some damage
Message permalink: 704568128897679441
Nice, sadly I own no boog sticks (19 in commiefornia), so my main thing has been thinking up ideas for armored vehicles

Gravitation designs

Fabrication**
Message permalink: 704568854940221550
Armored vehicle ideas are good, but buy some junker car and some basic tools and fix it up.
Message permalink: 704571842442166403
If you can learn to fix your own car your in better shape than 80% of society.
Message permalink: 704571934364532798
Even basic shit.
Message permalink: 704571959848992830
Yeah thatās very true, I want to get a truck soon thinking about an OBS Chevy and weldin some steel plates into the doors and and inside the fenders surrounding the engine block
Message permalink: 704572382408474644
Dont do that to your everyday vehicle.
Message permalink: 704573555689390080
If it's your boog out vehicle yeah that's a good idea. But use a lightweight but strong metal. Because you still want to have semi reasonable gas mileage.
Message permalink: 704573687671816232
Having a tank vehicle is awesome. Only being able to go 100 miles before needing to fill up makes it pointless though.
Message permalink: 704573799194165368
Because chances are when were boogin they arent going to give us many opportunities to refuel.
Message permalink: 704573953242300507
True I was thinking these could be used for strategic moments. we could have light weights and the heavy hittakers.
Message permalink: 704574277172723763
> If you can learn to fix your own car your in better shape than 80% of society. @Anonymoose. Sadly this is so true. Most people cant even check the fucking oil much less change it
Message permalink: 704574410249732196
If you can change suspension components like control arms and tie rods, and diagnose basic shit with an engine you'll be alright.
Message permalink: 704574596241686538
The rest comes with time.
Message permalink: 704574620170190869
I can tell you straight up most of my lightweight shit will either be motorcycles or dirt bikes. Easiest vehicles to lose people on.
Message permalink: 704574816170278983
My heavy hitters will be something like a Dodge Megacab with AR500 plates welded in the vital areas, 50 BMG turret mounted in the back. (Because the national guard kindly let me use it)
Message permalink: 704575176204877824
I cant do all that. I can do a good but tho.. if I had to I could learn. I have dropping a couple transmissions and put them back on. chaged parts. Alternator water pump radiator shit like that. But I haven't rebuilt and engine.. I am planning on doing axel swaps on my jeep. But dont have the cash atm. I want to put a small lift kit on...
Message permalink: 704575419424440331
My heavy weight would be some type of pickup with some horsepower upgrades and superb cooling modifications. With some type of armored enclosure in the bed
Message permalink: 704576176643113040
Engine cooling that is
Message permalink: 704576257869742142
I learn what I can. My father was a mechanic, so I should be able to figure it out.
Message permalink: 704576537499795496
I have done all types of suspension work, alternators, pumps, axles, wheel bearings, shit like that.
Message permalink: 704582095640461352
Engine shouldn't be shit. Essentially a big pump with tight tolerances.
Message permalink: 704582161357078628
I'm a big fan of natural work arounds for bugging out and extreme survival. While not auto mechanics it falls under mechanical engineering. Just something cool to do if you guys are into off grid type of living. These do have to be rebuilt every three or so months to keep them real hot. If you do one and have issues getting it started, piss on it or use coffee grounds. The nitrates spark up the breakdown really quickly. https://www.instructables.com/id/Compost-Heating-System/

Been working on vehicles for over a decade. From tearing the entire car down to bare metal for Paint, engine tear downs, to simple brake jobs. Would love to learn welding. Just bought a 3D printer to mess around with though.
Message permalink: 704700852400685126
How long do you think a car/truck would run with a bullet hole in the radiator?
Message permalink: 704731562414964746
Til the block got too hot
Message permalink: 704732202268753928
If there's enough air flow taking heat away from the block you could roll away for a good while, but pushing the engine will cut short the time you have
Message permalink: 704732813597081720
In reality, it depends on the engine and the climate and what you can do to repair that, if anything. If you're driving something like an old VW, they're air cooled so they don't even have a radiator. If you're driving a modern car, they'll throw some weird code and scream at you til it started siezing up and messing up the actual cylinder
Message permalink: 704732951539089413
A few months ago I had a pushrod that pole vaulted to the moon by way of the valve cover. I managed to drive it for 10ish miles spraying oil everywhere and losing power but it cost me that engine
Message permalink: 704733195496587354
If you have a bullet hole in the radiator roll the window down and turn up the heater to max blast.
Message permalink: 704733397867692134
And if you have the ability to pull over, you can crack an egg in the radiator to let that gum it up til you can get a proper patch
Message permalink: 704733437336092752
Or replacement
Message permalink: 704733457456300122
That's the easiest way to get as much heat as you can go, limp it as much as possible until you get to a safe zone. Also. JB weld. I have JB welded quite a couple of radiators for a temporary fix.
Message permalink: 704733585969774622
Not done jb much myself but I really need to add it to the kit.
Message permalink: 704733706069475358
Definitely, always a useful tool.

Local 316 mechanik. Can get anything running down the road for a period of time.
Message permalink: 704788837150228571
Since discussion had already started, im thinking my go to heavy vehicle will be a chevy express panel van. If you can find a one ton extended, you can easily upfit to have some sort of armor inside and still fit your light vehicle (dirtbike) and have room for ammunition and arms. Plus you have the bulletproof GM 6.0
Message permalink: 704821006988214303
And I may be biased, GM tech.
Message permalink: 704821064227618926
Iām planning on going to my work and grabbing the brand new 10 wheel Mack dump truck I driver everyday
Message permalink: 704821280955957319
Iām also a heavy equipment operator and have keys to every piece of equipment. So Iāll just grab a trailer and load up a dozer too while Iām at it lol
Message permalink: 704821427236503602
Could honestly be one hell of an APV
Message permalink: 704821582799044718
No DOD on those 6.0s thank god
Message permalink: 704823066181501020
True. The 6.0 doesnt really break, theyll go 500k+ if you let them
Message permalink: 704823232196509776
Sorry guys this is the only place a I REALLY fit in at the current moment
Message permalink: 704823382507651203
Shit me too. I know how to shoot handle and clean guns but I don't know them like some of these guys do. Don't know shit about comms or medical. So this is pretty much the only place I even know what's being talked about
Message permalink: 704823670983622778
I can shoot and handle myself but I dont think i'll be much use mentally in the field. I could figure out comms if I needed to but i havent devoted time to learn yet. I feel medical should be left to those trained in medical
Message permalink: 704824044637257858
Im definitely more of a hang out and fix whats broken type
Message permalink: 704824169593831506
