Bad holsters include:
Aliengear
Fobus
Anything soft nylon
Leather under most circumstances. Only okay if you have an external safety or it's a revolver
SERPA
TRex sidecar
Purse carry holsters
Anything that goes in your pocket
Versacarry
Lethal Lace
Urban Carry
> Single piece hardshell holsters that hold a firearm and a mag suck
@Confused trex makes others besides the sidecar. They are as good as tier 1 in every way
I love the ragnarok and raptor from t rex. I have a tier 1 that is excellent as well but the claw is almost too effective and digs in to the body too much
I've been considering picking up a safariland als for training later down the road. I've got a carry gun, but I'd like to put a better one together first
they just clip around your belt and keep your pants from being dragged down when running and crawling with shit hanging off of it. Maybe my body is different, but belts always seemed like they didn't do a good enough job on their own
Anyway, for anyone else who wants to read the roughly 105 references that they obviously didn't read, go ahead. There's hours of material with nearly a hundred individual incidents of open carry getting people hurt, robbed, or killed. Along with articles by people such as navy seals, famous instructors, delta force operatives, and even Varg Freeborn himself.
Good quality kydex holsters tend to run between $70-100+ but there are some exceptions. Even cheap kydex is safer than soft nylon and serpa, and you can get your hands on one for as little as 30-40 bucks
If everyone open carried, then it wouldn't matter. I've never in my life seen someone open carry in Minnesota unless in uniform (cop or security). Not my style, I'd rather them be completely caught off guard before they take the room temperature challenge.

Regarding that book crye suggested before. You could prevent a lot of situations by open carrying, but that one guy who decides to shoot you in the back knowing you're armed is another issue.
Yeah they don't even have to shoot you. Dozens of incidents where they just take the firearm from the victim's holster, or just rob them at gunpoint because they have their gun out first
Lol, okay then, I've had very opposite experiences over 20 years OC.... and again 17 of them in Philadelphia, not the outskirts, in the city, in the hood.

Open carry does have some level of preventative measure to it. I believe that's common sense. The determined BG can plan accordingly having more info at his disposal so to speak. Maybe 9/10 (random made up numbers) baddies see that info and decide it's not worth it. That 1/10 sees that and adjusts their plan to adapt to the info they have (this potential victim is armed and I see where the gun is). Idk if I'm wording this well at all.
Even with a holster that has proper retention such as a safariland ALS, there's countless instances of people having handguns stolen from them. Thieves are ambush predators, all they have to do is pull their weapon first. You can either give them what they want, or reach for your gun and immediately get shot.
At this point I understand you won't change your mind, but the article is there for everyone else to read. If you're unsure, the resources are guaranteed to give you the information needed to make a decision. We can't have the spread of bad advice that will get people killed, which is why many people here are passionate about educating others and steering them away from practices such as carrying SERPA's and Uncle Mike's.
For everyone else, the resources are here. Study up and carry safely. Most importantly, seek training. Once you've learned a bit, it's easy to tell the good from the bad and do your own research.
See, my thing is, I don't WANT to shoot anyone... and as someone who's actually spent time being a "criminal" and around these types of people, they go for the unarmed people like you said.
I lived and frequented some really bad areas in Philly, areas where white people who aren't from there dont go. And I've had people jump out on me and they turn to absolute jello when you pull a gun or they see you're carrying.
And not everyone should open carry... there's plenty of idiots who shouldn't carry period... but that would require someone to have the power to restrict rights
Like I said, the vast majority of the time open carry will work as a preventative measure. The drawback is the crazy fuck who sees the gun and still wants to come at you now knows you have it and where it is located.
