Pigs are great to have. I want to eventually get a goat, and maybe some cattle. Chickens are a must, probably the easiest animals to have and you reap the benefits pretty early with their eggs and such.

If I didn't live in suburbia under the oppression of my HOA overlords, I would definitely get into raising livestock

yes wood ash is lye. it can be used soap as is with a little but of water with just the grease from your hands. it can burn you when mixed with water so be fast To make soap mix oil and lye. mix wood ash with compost first and lye is basic so it lowers soil acidity
