The IIs with accutrigger are a ton nicer

And yeah especially my ruger being 16” I’m honestly surprised it does so well at 600 no issues
Message permalink: 706923179456594040
My only complaint are the rotary mags
Message permalink: 706923218790776882
Mine Hs never jammed like others but it’s flimsy and cheap feeling
Message permalink: 706923290089881671
The 5r sounds good to start with. Apparently the stock on the aac sd can flex and contact the barrel
Message permalink: 706923417240076338
Interesting
Message permalink: 706923490971746305
Oh, is the 5r magazine fed?
Message permalink: 706924315857256518
Yeah, the 5R barrel is one of the most accurate production barrels I’ve shot. Yeah I think so. They can all be magazine fed fairly easily
Message permalink: 706924401911791757
I don't know much about precision rifles, other than I have a decent one.
Message permalink: 706924603896758363
Hey, whoever isnt at work right now, lets go running. 10k
Message permalink: 706925611494670456
get off your fat ass with me lol
Message permalink: 706925656742559825
Looking at the 700 magpul enhanced. It has the same barrel but a magpul stock and takes magpul detachable magazines
Message permalink: 706926539106942986
Plus a rail for scope mounts and a bipod mount unlike the regular magpul one

fine ill go run by myself....
Message permalink: 706929476700733562
That’s definitely a good option @Confused
Message permalink: 706930601147760820
saving up for a scope is gonna be interesting lol
Message permalink: 706933676574769256
Lol this man thought I could run a 10k
Message permalink: 706936054099476521
I think I may save up for the scope first while doing research, then buy a rifle to mount it to
Message permalink: 706937900994002995
That’s the real professional move
Message permalink: 706938331337850933
That is literally, the best way to go about it, haha.
Message permalink: 706938423218536559
weird, there's a few articles saying mil dot is better than moa but almost everything out there is moa. I don't have any practical experience with both, I just know moa is something like 1.04something inches per 100 yards and mil dot is what the marines use I think
Message permalink: 706938644140785754
currently looking at the nightforce shv 5-20x56. I kinda want the nxs 5.5-22x56 but it's expeeeensive
Message permalink: 706939789156548680
Anyone have experience with 5.11 plate carriers
Message permalink: 706940835312435240
ah lovely, apparently mil reticle + moa turrets = mind numbing algebra. Going to avoid that

Ever look at guns you're considering buying and wonder how they can be so different?
Message permalink: 706956025638420530
In this case an Enfield, and a KSG
Message permalink: 706956069942984784
Oh yeah you don’t want mil reticle and MOA turrets, I ran a DMR like that for a deployment. Many math. There isn’t any actual difference between mil and MOA, it’s the gun equivalent of inches vs centimeters
Message permalink: 706957955328770048
I like the idea of mil, it sounds easier to gauge distances with
Message permalink: 706958085322965114
which would be nice if anyone made one
Message permalink: 706958158563639497
The only company I've found so far that makes mil dot scopes with mil adjustments is vortex
Message permalink: 706958622323769394
Idk where your looking but there’s just as many mil scopes as MOA
Message permalink: 706960188908896327
So I just got back and ended up doin 9 miles. Did any of you lazy fuckers go with me?
Message permalink: 706960208768794716
I'm seeing a ton of scopes with mildots but moa turrets
Message permalink: 706960272438591568
I did 5.6
Message permalink: 706960615671070761
@Confused are you looking at the Internet from 2012? 🤨
Message permalink: 706960646683754606
I got a vortex gen 1 pst 4-16x ffp for $350 and I love it
Message permalink: 706960670565990531
Yeah, I was dummy and got me a scope with moa turrets and mildots on it. It was big dumb.
Message permalink: 706960724387299409
So once I have my zero, I will only be using mildots. Thank god I'm not a sniper.
Message permalink: 706960823964401714
I'm looking at trijicon, leupold, and nightforce primarily. All three don't seem to make a single scope with mrad adjustments
Message permalink: 706961554876399726
They have mil reticles, but not adjustments
Message permalink: 706961641631252540
If you are gonna get a Mildot scope I'd reccomend 1st focal plane so you can actually make range estimations with it
Message permalink: 706961687382720533
I promise nightforce and trij do.
Message permalink: 706961978303840330
Idk about leupold but they should
Message permalink: 706962024856420352
You can do range est with both but with 2nd fp you have to be at max magnification
Message permalink: 706962194931122226
I've found one that looks like it fits my requirements. The nightforce shv 4-14x50 f1. First focal plane mildot reticle with 0.1 mrad adjustments at a price I can sorta reasonably afford
Message permalink: 706966111614271629
not sure I'm a fan of the reticle though, it's a bit cluttered
Message permalink: 706967381234286636
Oh I had one of those once! That’s an awesome choice man
Message permalink: 706971150604959866
It doesn’t do it justice, but that’s it on a Remington 5R
Message permalink: 706971359858917468
The reticle is much more visible than that to your eye
Message permalink: 706971440393617468
As far as reticles, there’s a learning curve, but the Horus/tremor style reticles offer a lot of capability over a traditional mil-dot style crosshairs
Message permalink: 706972053160591421
Seems like everything I've read about it is good. I think I'll start saving up for it.
Message permalink: 706973006554988688
Have you considered buying used?
Message permalink: 706973104039264324
Yeah, it looks like I'll be able to knock maybe 300 off the msrp price tag that way, but I still have to save up for it
Message permalink: 706973597175906405
Gotcha
Message permalink: 706973681951440947
The problems with being poor but not *a poor*
Message permalink: 706974912740458547
Hahah it is truly the worst spot
Message permalink: 706975225492799622
Do the mounting holes on the Remington 700 accept most direct scope mounts or is there a certain form factor to look out for?
Message permalink: 706981412061970432
Planning on using a single piece mount if i can
Message permalink: 706981529674317824
Figured this would probably be good https://www.primaryarms.com/nightforce-a219-direct-mount-rem-700-la-885-low-20-moa-30mm-a219
Message permalink: 706983246038171678
Yea you can put a 1913 rail on there
Message permalink: 706983425919287336
Have you checked armslist?
Message permalink: 706984156437151845
I just briefly checked OK and there are some nice precision rifles on there
Message permalink: 706984219854897246
While looking around it seemed like it would be more optional to mount it directly. At least according to the spuhr website
Message permalink: 706984245687615509
Haven't looked yet but I won't be buying the rifle for a few months anyway
Message permalink: 706984326759448618
I’d check it out there’s a couple really good deals right now

Here’s a Tikka
Message permalink: 706984637695524974
Yeah, everyone and their dog has a 308 bolt action around here
Message permalink: 706984704036962305
Lmao yea same with up here
Message permalink: 706984898359066666
That’s what I love about armslist. You can find incredible deals. People that have to move shit quick
Message permalink: 706985015023501392
And the ones willing to do a BOS...can’t beat that
Message permalink: 706985110972399667
If the price is right I may be willing to go 308 instead of 6.5
Message permalink: 706985238223388732
I thought that’s what you wanted?
Message permalink: 706986883946774608
308?
Message permalink: 706986893556056077
I'd like to have something that, perhaps with the right barrel and load, can make a mile with the right person behind it, as that's as far as the ranges around here seem to go. Basically trying to get the most bang for my buck in a single rifle that I can learn with, so the two calibers that can do that while still being common enough are 6.5 creedmoor and 300 win mag. 300 is a bit hot and isn't allowed at some ranges, so 6.5 is the best all around option for me.
Message permalink: 706987197953212427
Damnnnnn you guys have mile ranges there?
Message permalink: 706987390044078131
That way if i move up from the 600-1000 yard classes to longer range shooting, I won't have to buy another rifle
Message permalink: 706987437313753188
Yeah there's one that i know of
Message permalink: 706987489402814494
Well if that’s the case then yea you should sit back and wait and make sure you spend more on glass than the rifle
Message permalink: 706987540233584841
It's out in the middle of nowhere an hour from me
Message permalink: 706987542121283614
Or get the rifle. Put something on it that’s good for that 600-1000 range. Practice that and save for the top glass
Message permalink: 706987714691596310
I had no problem hitting 629 with my 556
Message permalink: 706987767774707805
And it was just a 3-9x40 Nikon p223
Message permalink: 706987819586945074
So I'm looking at the Remington 700 in 6.5 because it's good enough to start with but has enough parts support to easily get a barrel that can do a mile. I'll be buying the optic first though as it's probably going to be more expensive, and more important
Message permalink: 706987943796932620
Sure will be
Message permalink: 706988024545804339
The 700 is a great choice
Message permalink: 706988055210229781
But like I said
Message permalink: 706988067969433621
If you want to get that first and something to go on top that will put you in the shorter range for a bit so you can save for the top glass that wouldn’t be a bad route to go either
Message permalink: 706988201423798369
That way you have a rifle
Message permalink: 706988219526414366
If you don’t already have any
Message permalink: 706988246105718796
If you already have guns then yea just go the way your saying
Message permalink: 706988303597043744
I often hear that the 700 is overpriced for the package you get.
Message permalink: 706988531456671794
I had one 4 years ago
Message permalink: 706988604483829861
After all, Remington kinda went down the shithole over the past few years with QC
Message permalink: 706988622271742013
By the time i have enough experience, i may need to change the barrel anyway lol. I don't really have anything I could put on it and don't wanna spend the extra money.
Message permalink: 706988648205254736
Then it was good I havent been in the DMR in a bit
Message permalink: 706988649580855347
That’s what confused was saying earlier
Message permalink: 706988744980561950
