There is no evidence to support tampons being effective in hemorrhage control, and multiple tests have proven that they are ineffective in a major bleed. Z fold combat gauze, Quik Clot ect for junctionalaxial wound, tq's for limbs and Tagaderm or chest seals for trunk injuries

Think of it like this, you get shot in the groin and your illiac artery rupturs and starts bleeding perfusely. If you don't stop that bleed quick you'll die. No what if about it. It will take no less then 3 minutes to bleed to death after the rupture of a major artery and you only have a minute tops to control it yourself before stock starts setting in and you lose fine motor skills among other things. Shock can Cause Alerted Mental Status, make you confused and act irrational

The point was if supplies are dried up and you had two options, use it or bleed out, it can be used. It was a trick passed along by a SF medic who was at FOB Keating with my unit. It is fine that in your experience things are different. It is also fine if you want to bleed out when all other materials are gone.
