Medical isn't a joke. You can seriously fuck someone up worse then they already were. That's why i always stress not doing skills your not trained in. Even if it's "the Golden standard" of tac medicine, if you don't know how to do it properly or when and why to withhold congrats you just killed your patient

Be it iv fluids, needle decomp, or even tq's and wound packing

modern medicine is an assurance you probably won't kill your patient

anything before that was basically throwing anything you knew of at a problem then watching your patient die from an infection

most casualties in any conflict were from sepsis up until we figured out germs worked and how to disinfect things

End of the day if anyone has any legit questions or wants to learn about medicine. Hell even clinical decisions like do or don't do an intervention, there's a bunch of us with all different backgrounds, i may be only a civilian BLS but i have alot of experience with trauma because of my area. Another guy said he's a rural medic which has its own obstacles. If anyone ever wanted to learn there's a wealth of knowledge from all of us. And i don't claim to be the do all die all of EMS there's plenty i don't know and i always try to advance my knowledge further every day

I don't have a piece of paper that says I know things, but I have some real world experience in more basic first aid

I haven't seen enough of them to have a definitive yay or nay, however as far as i know they haven't been approved for civilian EMS

@Jimmydean338 no. One of the reasons gauze works is it aids in clot formation. A pad would just keep pulling the blood away from the lac and not allow clot formation against the vessel

Tampons aren't designed for anything else but to absorb small amounts of blood due to menstruation. Not major hemorrhage control. 4x4's and 5x9's and some kling for minor lacs and bleeding, z fold gauze for major axial hemorrhage, tq's for any limbs and Tagaderm chest seals for trunk injuries

Well good tq's and z fold gauze can be expensive, but you can in a pinch use 4x4's to pack, i absolutely do not recommend it if you have a better alternative and only recommend as an absolute life or death situation. It wont be ideal but it's something and that was told to me by a FDNY rescue Medic in a TCCC course i took back in August.
