So lets say this. We get shot in the leg, major arterial bleeding and fractured leg, would a shirt or pant leg be enough to stop bleeding until I can get a tourny or no?

@Jimmydean338 Depends on the person(leg size, fat content, bone structure), and the way you apply. I would say no because that should be your absolute last option, but if you have no other options, cut or tear fabric into widish strips and wind around, then use a stick or rod of some type as a windlass to tighten down. Arterial bleeding is no joke and there is a high chance that improvised won’t work bc of the inability to consistently apply even circumferential pressure. This should be secondary tho since I highly encourage everyone to carry windlass style tqs in their edc. And most of us are gear whores anyways, so it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience to throw one in the bag.
@Jimmydean338 there is multiple studies and articles that home made tq's don't work for a variety of reason. As boogbrain explained you can't guarantee circumferential pressure, the material may not be strong enough to stay tight without tearing, and also using that isn't a wise as a conventional CAT ie more the 2.5" diameter can cause nerve damage and possible lose the limb with in a few hours. And if you have a major arterial bleed your not gonna have the time to cut off a piece of your shirt to fashion up a tq. You'll be in shock with in 60 to 90 services seconds and dead in another 60-90.
Building my own personalized ifak. Would it be a good idea to include burn cream? I've already got the basics to help control bleeding. is there anything else I should consider adding?
Ifak should be anything immediately needed to save your life, tq, cheat seals, z fold gauze pressure bandages like an Israeli dressing or H bandages, and a basic airway adjunct, 60mm OPA and NPA
I mean, marines do carry burn dressing in their IFAK’s, but that’s a holdover from the main threat being IED’s and consequently vehicle fires, if you don’t have that threat, the space could be better used

Now a Main Medical Bag or Tech Bag should consist of the following
4x4's 5x9's And Kling Gauze, enough for your entire group at least 10 of each per person
Normal Saline solution at least 4 Liter containers
Large Trauma Dressings, they're gonna be big bulky gauze sheets
More Tagaderm, Chest Seals
Burn dressing 1 0r 2 per person in your group
Full Set Of OPA's and NPA's
BVM's or Face Shields for resuscitation if necessary
More TQ's at least 20 in this bag
Blood Pressure Cuff and Good Quality Stethoscope i.e. Littman
*Optional if your trained for it would be*
At least 5 set of IV catheters ranging from 20g-14g ea
8 Liters Normal saline in, 250mm, 500mm, and 1000mm bags
IV start kits
Saline Flushes
IV Lines
Needle Decompression kit
Surgical Airway Kit
ET Tube Kit
Laryngoscope Set
Combi Tune Set
King Airway Set
Shears as stated above
Clamps
IO Drill and catheters
But raptors are gonna be more effective, they're sharp enough to cut through webbing and soft kevlar, they also have a seat belt cutter and window punch built into it as well, and if your an EMS provider or military you get a 50% off discount

So ive been raiding first aid supplies from the over 100 cintas kits at my job. And last night, while I was patrolling the same area for the sixth time that night, I realized I was in fact standing in a fully equipped and stocked 3 room ER essentially. And it has been untouched (or inventoried) since my states lockdown. So, im in the process of slowly repurposing the unused supplies. I have very limited basic medical knowledge so I'm looking for a list of what I should be "discarding due to expiration"
Note: I may not be a medic, but my wife is a nurse. Id ask her for the list, but then id have to explain where it was coming from. And I'm not doing that😂😂. Im sure there have been lists made and shared here, but I'm an idiot on the subject so if you could name the specifics of what I'm looking for I could potentially help keep someone alive. Thanks in advance

The only thing in those kits that would actually have "expiration" dates would be saline I'd imagine, you could probably get away with gauze pads and say they were discolored but as far as i recall nothing in those kits actually has an expiration date
@John Public also be careful taking from those kits constantly, if it's like my job cintas comes like once a month to check them and restock as necessary, so don't get greedy
I missed the raptor chat, but I’ve used them and Xshears. The x shears are faaaar better, i promise. I don’t carry raptors anymore due to the x shears.
Pretty cool actually, i wouldn't necessarily say better, definitely comparable and more wallet friendly. I'm a full Time EMT so i like the little odds and ends that the Raptor offers but those X Shears are definitely pretty legit and i might invest in them soon thanks bro

There's a few websites with premade ones, Allegheny Rescue co. It's one i know of, another is Medicine In Bad Places but they are a bunch of bootlickers so take that for what it's worth
Be careful with Allegheny rescue co. He is known for being a bit inflammatory on his insta and supposedly called cbrnboi a fed. I’m not saying don’t order from him. Just keep it in mind.
Yes. A lot of antibiotics, some low dose pain meds, even e.d. Drugs are over the counter. Others simply require talking to the pharmacist on duty to write the script.
Mexico they have more eyes on then some other places but it’s not too hard to do and if you have a script written by a pharmacist down there then they can’t do anything about it when coming back
What he said. If it's like a wound in nature, or like a blister or something or that sort where infection is possible, clean it with alcohol or an antiseptic and neosporin that biatch.
Don't let any wounds you have get infected. Clean them all thoroughly, whether with iodine, benzalkonium chloride, isopropyl, or any other effective anti-septic.
