Buy quality parts(Aero at minimum), free float hanguard, try and get a 223 wylde chambered barrel with a 1:8 twist, everything else is kinda user's choice

556 barrel free floating handgaurd already on my rifle. But i still feel like its just an adult sized 10/22

It works, it can be made to work very well or made to work no matter what, it's kinda hard to fuck it up but you certainly can

The fact that you can source parts/ammo from just about anywhere in the country is a huge plus

You can also have more than one gun with just one lower, build out different uppers and just swap them around

I havent done that yet, but that is an interesting prospect

They really are adult legos, but the good lego kits cost more

Any suggestions on a different caliber for a new upper?

450 bushmaster and 350 legend are popular around here

I wouldn't change caliber on my first two uppers just barrel length, 5.56 can do some crazy stuff out of longer barrels

Don't do specialty ammo if you want it to be a combat carbine.

Stick with something reliable, easy to get your hands on and plentiful.

I have a 556 upper that i intend to use for "combat"

Keep in mind, they guarentee almost all of their rifles to perform 1 moa with match ammo, including the 50bmg and 20mm, and their 338 lapuas seem to do 1/4moa or better

Cheap 338 lapua is 5 dollars a round, some of the highest end stuff I've handled is sitting at about 20 a round but I know you can get it closer to 30 for some of the absolutely fantastically perfect stuff

Yea, i have reloading dies for 338 lapua. I can reload it if necessary. I just dont like the cartridge

anyone know where i can get good cheap p99 magazines, i lost one in chest high grass and cant find it anywhere now and need a replacement, i dont know about buying promag and all those though, i figured id just buy walther mags but if promag or some other brand is good ill buy those

I personally dont mind promag but ive never shot my pistol enough to know how they act under pressure

338 lapua is incredibly specialized but with SOCOM adopting the new 338 Norma Magnum, I'd imagine a lot of guys are gonna make that switch since it seems to generally perform better

Never heard of Norma. Science behind all the different calibers is so cool.

Im sure with the right rifle 338 lapua is a great round. Ive no complaints about the ballistics, its just that recoil is vicious.

Norma basically just addresses problems that lapua had. Seems cool. Flannel daddy shot it out of barrett's new bolty and apparently it cuts through wind really well. I got the impression that anyone with 30 minutes of training could make a 1000 yard shot with it

Yeah, 338 is basically point blank at 500 so 1k isnt a huge challenge

Im thinking if the barrett and the 338 arent going to work for me, im gonna look into a 300 WM for a match rifle

300wm is also gonna have some serious recoil

If you really want to splurge, there's a few rifles out there with swappable barrels and bolts so you can practice with 308 as a lot of ranges don't allow magnum rifle calibers since they destroy steel targets

The ATF are a bunch of cockroaches anyway. I legitimately wouldn't be surprised if those scumbags tried to round up people and gas chamber them someday.
