You keep saying Lapua is a bitch but it isn't with a good brake
Message permalink: 723268042016161893
I must stress the importance of a ***good one*** though
Message permalink: 723268156663267430
Yeah i know, coefficient. Anyway think of 300wm as a round sitting between 308 and 338. 338 has about 1,000 ft lbs more energy than 300, which has about 600 ft lbs more than 308
Message permalink: 723268274376278128
@1-1Cannibal try a 220 grain bullet at 3790 fps. That rifle tries to shatter your collar bone every time you get behind it
Message permalink: 723268485723193425
Keep in mind I'm a massive mofo, I enjoy 338 a good deal
Message permalink: 723268630300852345
Its a great round for people with no nerves in their shoulder lol
Message permalink: 723268720641704026
Im no pipsqeak at 6' 6" and 300lbs
Message permalink: 723268911361032294
Then why even consider it?
Message permalink: 723268946257641492
If 338 kicks you that badly then don't use it
Message permalink: 723269009444831313
308 will take you out to 1,000 yards max but it's kinda sketchy past 800, 300 will get you to around 1,200 but you need good ammo since it wasn't originally a precision round, and 338 will get you out to around 1,750. 300wm does pretty well as a counter sniper round. Big enough to put some serious hurt on someone while carrying more energy further than 308 can due to its increased charge and better BC
Message permalink: 723269046673473547
I know that realistically I'm not gonna have a need for big fuck you rounds like that, so I like 6.5, lol
Message permalink: 723269052025405480
6.5 creedmoor is my current match favorite, accurate as hell and it doesnt kill me
Message permalink: 723269210893189280
@1-1Cannibal this whole conversation started because i was discussing why i wanted a 300WM vs a 338LM
Message permalink: 723269352778104914
Yep, I originally wanted to go with .308 actually, but ended up trying 6.5 instead and I like it enough.
Message permalink: 723269408038060143
But I'm not a sniper, don't pretend to be. My rifle is better than I am.
Message permalink: 723269463348215929
@1-1Cannibal also i said like 3 times that i sold my 338 like 2 years ago
Message permalink: 723269539357524079
Then why do we keep bringing up 338
Message permalink: 723269598425907352
Because it makes you feel manly.
Message permalink: 723269675252711454
Fuck it, get a 300, I don't care, it's not my gun
Message permalink: 723269727807471718
Message permalink: 723269759533187083
I didnt want to discuss specifically the 338. The 300wm was my intention. This just went in a different direction so godammed fast i couldnt get her back on track
Message permalink: 723269785499992149
It's good enough for Army and Marines snipers, so 300WM is a fine round.
Message permalink: 723269940878246008
338 is gonna out perform 300 but 300 is gonna out perform 308 and possibly 6.5
Message permalink: 723269943164141610
Yea, i wouldnt want 6.5 for anything other than target shooting at long range
Message permalink: 723270071929274438
.308-6.5-.300-.338
Message permalink: 723270087347273729
The 300wm is *essentially* replacing the .308 entirely as a bolt action cartridge, except for very niche roles
Message permalink: 723270130028511303
Yep, can confirm.
Message permalink: 723270167584309420
Confirmed
Message permalink: 723270193500913724
300 Norma mag exists aswell
Message permalink: 723270225910431785
I actually was talking with some snipers as we were switching out.
Message permalink: 723270227940474972
Norma mag?
Message permalink: 723270348836962376
Ive heard of it but i guess ive never really looked into it
Message permalink: 723270509864812615
I guess i assumed people meant lapua mag
Message permalink: 723270575434367026
Granted he's probably a bootlicker considering they're secret service, this fucking Chad was carrying a 300wm in DC when that shit went down
Message permalink: 723270675296682066
You could drown a toddler in my boxers right now
Message permalink: 723270793466740848
Im so godammed wet
Message permalink: 723270821988270161
Norma makes, ***"special rounds"***, they have 300 norma that should out perform 300wm
Message permalink: 723270924219973765
Okey you have my interest, ill have to look into that.
Message permalink: 723271053744406580
I thought 300 and 338 were pretty much it for belted magnum long range rounds
Message permalink: 723271165254303834
300wm is way more available right now. Granted the hunting rounds have an effective range of around 300 yards, while match stuff reaches out to 1200
Message permalink: 723271210007396352
@Confused i reload my own ammo so i can tailor my stuff to specific use cases
Message permalink: 723271338583916555
300 Norma Magnum and 338 Norma Magnum will out perform their counter parts for long range magnum rounds, but they are hard to find and expensive as fuck, as well as basically not many rifle being chambered for them
Message permalink: 723271470641578064
Any chance barrels are easier to find? I can fit my own barrels to an action.
Message permalink: 723271707086815304
I'd assume you would have one made if it's a match barrel, but theoretically you could find one
Message permalink: 723271995286093914
Definitely will have better luck with 300wm on barrels too
Message permalink: 723272045936246844
Unfortunately i dont have a gun drill...
Message permalink: 723272062835359815
What kind of budget are you looking at?
Message permalink: 723272177964548234
No idea yet
Message permalink: 723272207819866113
Shits gonna be pricey. If you want something that doesn’t already exist that’s bigger than 300wm expect to pay lorg bills
Message permalink: 723272248084922471
I was prepared to drop around 15 to 18 for the barrett.
Message permalink: 723272287549128855
But thats because it came with like 4k of ball ammo
Message permalink: 723272366058373150
A custom 300 or 338 norma will probably run you right around 10k, but that's the price specifically from my guy, don't knoe what others would charge
Message permalink: 723272522656907358
I just need parts basically. Everything else ill do myself
Message permalink: 723272625337401395
I have a cnc mill and a lathe
Message permalink: 723272673098203152
Theyre old, but they still run true
Message permalink: 723272734888689744
Getting a bolt and barrel shouldn't be too bad, but I haven't the slightest idea what chassis would work well with them
Message permalink: 723272861938090006
Im sure somebody makes a stock blank somewhere
Message permalink: 723272940841599036
Well the chassis is the easy part. It’s the barrel/chamber/rifling/headspace that is difficult
Message permalink: 723273037327106119
Yes, ive done it a few times before. Screwed it up more than once
Message permalink: 723273210162053293
But im getting better everytime
Message permalink: 723273269075247154
I think 300 and 338 norma may be shorter than their counter parts but if you throw enough time and money at it, it should work
Message permalink: 723273623430889482
Ill check out the norma stuff. Ill keep you guys updated if you want
Message permalink: 723273809322311812
You can get defiance actions barreled and headspaced with nice barrels like bartlein
Message permalink: 723273977056723016
Top end shit, and a barreled action will run you about 2k i think
Message permalink: 723274063992324146
Oh really? All ready for a chassis?
Message permalink: 723274163489341543
Or still need trigger and safety?
Message permalink: 723274228765294592
I'm just waiting for *Q* to make a magnum version of *The Fix*
Message permalink: 723274250693116024
@1-1Cannibal whats so special about "the fix"?
Message permalink: 723274464309018764
Still need a trigger, then chassis
Message permalink: 723274556365865020
Optionally https://www.altusshooting.com/pages/rifle-builder
Message permalink: 723274578922700850
The Fix would be the best rifle this decade, if it was a good rifle
Message permalink: 723274639874195516
Toss it in an accuracy international stock and stick a nice scope on it
Message permalink: 723274698166894666
The Fix is just an ultra light weight rifle that isn't a remington 700 or mauser type action
Message permalink: 723274802927894589
Isn't the fix silly lightweight? Cool in its own ways but light and long action isn't a fun combo
Message permalink: 723274892698583170
This.. is beautiful https://www.altusshooting.com/products/altus-custom-6-5-creedmoor-precision-folder
Message permalink: 723275051562172457
But they kinda did a fuckey wuckey and shed to much weight for even 308 to be comfortable from it, and the stock is 3/4" wide and made of the hardest rubber in existence
Message permalink: 723275077935824918
So it kills on one end cripples on the other?
Message permalink: 723275188195688449
@Sparrow that is a pretty rifle
Message permalink: 723275282211012699
Yes, and I want one in a magnum cartrige just to fuck my friends up when they think they want to shoot expensive magnum ammo
Message permalink: 723275502261108746
The Fix does several innovative things. Unfortunately, they have accuracy and feeding issues, and Q’s CS is “fuck you”
Message permalink: 723275823204925451
All in all, building an ultra precision 300wm rifle will probably come out to 5-6k max before optics. About the same as the barrett
Message permalink: 723275824286924861
Yeah, thats about what i figured
Message permalink: 723275981204488283
Though possibly better than the barrett
Message permalink: 723276016667197501
Idk, haven't looked into the barrett much to see its accuracy
Message permalink: 723276093175496764
You'll probably want a can or a brake on it though, whatever you go with
Message permalink: 723276216181850194
Surprisingly i dont have a single suppressor..
Message permalink: 723276378589495337
I kinda want one but that tax stamp is repulsive
Message permalink: 723276481786281984
Everyone around here says its too much paperwork and too expensive to deal with
Message permalink: 723276491562942566
I just stick with a decent brake and send it
Message permalink: 723276570084638824
I'd love to have a surefire can to mount on my warcomp
Message permalink: 723276644906696835
Cans are dope lol
Message permalink: 723276655602434119
No doubt cans are dope, but i dont want to spend 6 months trying to buy something i can make in a day in the garage
Message permalink: 723276807603880047
I'm half considering form 1 but it's just not the same quality unless you have the equipment to do it right instead of a solvent trap
Message permalink: 723276938189209700
Yeah im a special case, i have my own lathe and cnc mill. But ive never heard of form 1 before
Message permalink: 723277086940201082
You can build your own can on a f1
Message permalink: 723277159791067296
Wait period is like 2 weeks
Message permalink: 723277223875838002
And then what? register it
Message permalink: 723277244453093437
Seriously?
Message permalink: 723277317098569749
Yeah, $200 tax stamp, similar paperwork, but very short wait time
Message permalink: 723277354914545684
Hmmmmmmm. That sounds much better
Message permalink: 723277429002469486
