Make it out of the most heat resistant and durable material you have on hand, and make doubly sure the baffles are aligned properly

Typically they'll make a tube and weld metal baffles to the inside, but the welding part is more to keep people from disassembling them. If you make a metal tube with threaded end caps, and have one cap threaded to accept a barrel, you can fill it with metal baffles. When you're cleaning, take one end off with a wrench, and dump the baffles in an ultrasonic cleaner, or the dishwasher

Drill a hole through the middle, then have a cnc machine carve the side out. Don't even need fancy 3 plane stuff

People actually still buy those old things for building boots. They don't really make many sewing machines that can punch through several layers of leather with three needles at once anymore

I saw a brand new CNC mill, that got flooded out, completely totalled but the older, what ever brand it was, one next to just needed surface rust removed and some new grease

Kinda interesting how that happens. There's plenty of things that are better now but a lot of mechanical stuff was just better back then

In a romantic way though. My parents had it tougher than me but they also had a ton of trauma that kinda fucked them up. If I ever have kids, I want to make sure they have a lot of hands on skills and understand the value of work, without randomly flipping out and abusing them

It was like a coin toss at any given moment, completely random praise or punishment from my mom. Learned in psychology that they tried that with rats and called it learned helplessness because eventually the rats would just sit there, taking the shocks. Turns out she has borderline personality disorder so it's difficult to control extreme mood swings and impulsive behavior

So she'd just fly off the handle and attack little 7 year old me, then feel bad about it later that day and try to reward me

My dad was cool. A little emotionally distant at times but he tried his best and taught me a lot
