so for 308 upper for hunting, do i want a mid length or rifle length gas system
Message permalink: 717506982168363098
Rifle length if you can. It'll smooth out the recoil a bit
Message permalink: 717507080734507009
do you mean 80% lower?
Message permalink: 717509038442545263
never seen anyone spray paint inside
Message permalink: 717509123612082296
I would just leave it raw or get it cerakoted if ever
Message permalink: 717509252218093580
they sell 80% lowers
Message permalink: 717509418757128205
that are anodized already
Message permalink: 717509453867647017
Anodizing is a very involved process. Yes, but they you have to mill it out. Cerakote is the simplest answer
Message permalink: 717509556669906986
Cerakote will look really clean after also
Message permalink: 717509867979538513
Should mention SOTAR said cerakote inside a rifle causes nothing but problems because it wears off and gunks stuff up, as well as messes with tolerances
Message permalink: 717509960367341578
Keep in mind, cerakote is an additive process
Message permalink: 717510028613124198
Aluminum always has a thin layer of aluminum oxide on it, which is much tougher. If I'm correct, anodizing turns a thicker layer of the aluminum into aluminum oxide. Cerakote adds a coat on top instead of converting the existing material. I could be totally wrong but my first thought is that leaving the interior raw should be fine as 7075 aluminum is much harder than copper
Message permalink: 717511584309706752
Unless you are worried about aesthetics you should be fine with raw
Message permalink: 717511818121183264
Hey guys
Message permalink: 717512764062695465
Cerakote on the outside is fine though. Looks good and protects it a bit

```fix Hey there, it looks like you're asking about armor. Here's some quick tips. Soft armor stops most handgun rounds and is good for concealing. If you're shot, you'll have a massive bruise for a month or longer. Steel armor is heavy, will send spall into your neck, and doesn't protect against fast moving rounds like m193, m855a1, and 22-250. You can get ceramic for about the same cost as steel at its lower end, so there's no point in even buying steel. Ceramic armor comes in a few sizes. SAPI and swimmer/shooter cut are what you're looking for. The latter makes it easier to move your arms. The more protection, the heavier. The lighter it is for its rating class, the more expensive. Lightweight LVL iv plates cost a ton. Multi curve is more comfortable than single curve, and flat should be avoided outright. The more curves, the more $ though. If you don't like reading or dealing with lots of choices: Hesco if you have money Hoplite if you're poor but want something that will still protect you Here's a thread listing off armor of various types in ranking of how good they are, based on protection provided compared to weight, and quality of manufacturing. ``` https://www.reddit.com/r/QualityTacticalGear/comments/cmkton/armor_purchasing_guide/
thanks
Message permalink: 717517115762016367
I bought Tactical Scorpion Gear because it had super low lead time, videos showing it being shot seemed solid enough but its def budget
Message permalink: 717519055292071937
So I bought an M18 to use as my main sidearm.
Message permalink: 717519484872556605
Depending on the round yes or no on first hit. After one or two hits, yes it will spall. You can get ceramic armor as inexpensive as ar500 which will stop 55gr 5.56, which ar500 doesn't (they say it does but it doesn't)
Message permalink: 717520590981955584
There's no reason to get heavy steel plates that don't even protect against m193 and m855a1
Message permalink: 717545005568491551
Message permalink: 717545045091287121
in 5.56, maybe 300blk but it might overpenetrate
Message permalink: 717545060245438518
The only time I'd suggest a shotgun is if you're living in a state that isn't free and have restrictions on your magazine. They're more difficult to control and your wife and kids likely won't have a fun time shooting it
I may make some purchases, but what would be a good way to home-made some until I can buy a few sets? Also, are roit shields obtainable, or should I make my own?
Message permalink: 717559750862307449
Riot shields and ballistic shields are attainable
Message permalink: 717559889001578497
Okay. I'm guessing they run a few hundred? Probably should look into a ballistic shield.
Message permalink: 717559983675408475
Ballistic shields will be in the high hundreds to mid thousands. They are also very heavy and usually are only handgun rated
Message permalink: 717560323250585622
Well that's too rich for my blood, and doesn't work like I'd prefer. I need to find gear to stop 5.56.
Message permalink: 717560497536237608
Unless you have tips for home-made.
Message permalink: 717560545758281748
Rifle rated shields are going to be both expensive and seriously heavy
Message permalink: 717560734850089012
Figured. Damn
Message permalink: 717560803368370237
Homemade riot shields are very possible. Homemade ballistic shields notttt so much. Theoretically it’s possible
Message permalink: 717561018682703963
By theoretically it’s possible I mean like, very theoretically if you happened to by an engineer and understand the physics and specific materials of body armor, and have the hands on experience to build it, plus the tools.
What are some other materials with ballistics resistance that Ace or Lowes might have? (Not expecting perfect performance, just enough to keep me alive for more than one fight.)
Are AR15’s okay in NJ?
Message permalink: 717569224033435730
That's fair. At the very least I will get my hands on soft-tactical gear. Once I get back in shape I can be pretty fucking agile. 15 years of collective martial arts experience and military training saw to that.
Message permalink: 717569470197006368
I have a helmet by Denmark Protection group. Ear pro doesn’t fit well in the ear cutouts. Prefer something lighter. Don’t really have a budget, but could use funds elsewhere. No gas mask currently. Have 5.11 boots, fuck my arches up hiking on a ruck, looking for more comfort. I all things I want light weight.
Message permalink: 717570626365161484
Underarmor valsetz are great, however they don’t give as much ankle support as leather boots. They’re extremely lightweight though, they weight about the same as a pair sneakers. Blauer also has some decent lightweight boots, they use a BOA lacing system though so if it fucks up you have to send it in.
Typically you want a quality iwb for carry. Concealed means concealed. If you need an owb holster, you probably know exactly why you need one. Typically only for work or competition, or if your state only allows open carry.
Message permalink: 717583977799483473
Soft nylon 🤮 ☠️ Hybrid holster 🤢 Serpa 💀 Leather - okay if it's high quality and you have an external safety Cheap kydex 🙁 You want good quality kydex with a secure attachment. Personally I prefer aiwb with soft loops. A few good brands are jm custom kydex, phlster, and darkstar gear. Typically you can tell if a kydex holster is quality because they'll be around $80+ and shitty ones will hover around $40
Message permalink: 717585552894984283
I have seen people ventilate their legs with soft nylon, aliengear, and serpa. I've also seen people drop their pistol with soft nylon.
Question about Trauma pads. I'm looking at shellback lvl 4 plates and carrier. Are trauma pads like a universal thing that can be used in conjunction with any plate carrier and plates? Would they be worth having in conjunction with lvl 4 plates?
Message permalink: 717589221627527249
no they need to be the same size as the plate
Message permalink: 717589512238137474
so like 8.5x10 with the same size
Message permalink: 717589593607897171
cut should not matter
Message permalink: 717589625614368789
If you're getting sapi plates, it should be easy enough to match. Medium to medium and so on. Check the maximum plate thickness that your plate carrier supports. Many support up to an inch, so depending on the plate it may not fit
Message permalink: 717589927780679711
As for tulster, it looks like another cheap kydex brand. The belt clip doesn't look that great quality wise and they sell aiwb holsters without wing claws.
Message permalink: 717590536420196384
Jm is very good quality but they tend to have a pretty long wait time. The phlster floodlight is typically ready to ship on order though
Message permalink: 717590723217850398
Though it needs a light to work
Message permalink: 717590835159629844
