If this moves to urban centers, melee combat is something we need to discuss too. Most ballistics armor is made of plastic fibers. Pointy Knives, rapiers, estocs, knitting needles (yes seriously), stilettos, and pointy daggers should also be considered for their ability to displace the fibers and move through them.

Also, with heavier armors, aim for joints like armpits, knees, and inner thighs.

Another thing to think about is who you have with you in a setting like that

if you're going to be exposed to something like that, make sure to go with a group of people you trust to be able to fight off an attacker semi effectively

Rule of thumb for stab protection, if it will stop a bullet it will probably stop a knife, notable exception being that plate carriers are often not rated for ballistic protection them selves

Most melee isn't going to be more than three maybe four move before someone is either bleeding to death or suffering a concussion

"Melee" If you think you're going to have to go hands on, take bjj classes. It's good exercise anyway. If they have a knife, you're going to get cut. Doesn't matter how good you are, your best knife defense is getting away.

Crye is a skinny legend to appendix a full size with a base-plated mag.

Highly recommend taking BJJ or MMA classes from a good instructor if you want to get into hand to hand. Learn some take downs and simple combos when throwing punches.

Coming from someone who has been in various martial arts for around 14 years now, punching hurts and isn't very effective unless you get lucky. If you're going to punch anything, go for soft tissue like the neck and stomach. It's much more effective to tackle someone to the ground and choke them out, though if you're dealing with multiple people, you can't do that.

Typically going hand to hand either means you failed with your weapon / don't have one, or you're in a scenario where you can't risk killing them

Pure OC pepper spray is usually pretty effective. It'll at least slow them down enough for you to get away.

More effective than tasers at least. Then of course if that doesn't work, or you need to escalate faster, there's lead

POM, fox, and some sabre red is good to go. You'll want a pure oc spray with a flip top lid. Twist top fails too often and gel takes too long to take full effect.

You can pick up POM on Amazon for pretty cheap. Even in multi packs for stocking stuffers

For LGS it sounds about right, you’re gonna pay more usually since you’re not paying shipping and they count that into their cost. Ammoseek has plenty of places at about $.35/rd, my math says that price is closer to $.45/rd

Brings it down to about $.41/rd, which to not have to wait for shipping is an acceptable cost to me

You likely won't find a real instructor, just someone teaching you watered down or made up bull that's only good for a halfway decent workout. You want BJJ, Muay Thai, wrestling, a little boxing for footwork and cardio, and msybe a few others to see what works against an opponent in the ring.
