When people started making rifle caliber handguns, like AR pistols, all AP ammo can technically be fired from a handgun, so it's all illegal unless it's grandfathered in like 30-06

What brand is it? Assuming it's a high quality match barrel, cutting it to 18" and threading it can make for one sweet marksman rifle

The further you're shooting, the less semi auto matters. The military is actually going back to bolt guns because by the time your round hits, you have another round chambered and you're waiting to see where the round lands

338 lapua brass is probably manufactured to more exacting standards because it's a precision round. 50bmg isn't meant for precision

The listed effective range of the m110 is what, 1000 yards? More of an intermediate between the m4 and higher power rifles. Granted there's so many variables in shooting past that range that idk if it's worth it

Depends on the mission. Sometimes they're carrying a regular rifle to be effective and switch when they get into position. Sometimes they're just carrying a long range rifle while everyone else is protecting them because they're a counter sniper for example

Yeah the marines just got the new 13, it sounds like they’re mostly ignoring the 40a6 since the new gun is so much better and the only advantage of the a6 is a few ounces iirc

It sounds like everyone does it at home. I haven't read much about the process but it's likely much cheaper to do large batches than individual ones

Also howa. They sell some nice barreled actions that you can throw in a chassis. From what I understand, the qc on the Remington just isn't there anymore but the parts support is, so if you find a used one it may be a good deal

I was considering building one with a howa barreled action but decided to build another ar instead. My old one is about the right size for my fiance

Looked into them and apparently their products are shit

Horrible bedding and the zero wanders wildly. Barrel touching the stock. The guys at christensen said they'd charge to fix it and sending it to a gunsmith would void the warranty

LSS gen 2 howa chassis, $450 Howa barreled action, under 400 if you get it at the right place. People report 1/2 moa with factory match ammo and sometimes under with hand rolled stuff but idk how much of that is people getting lucky with 3 shot groups instead of doing a full 10

Barrel life always depends on round count. If you shoot a lot of precision rounds, you'll have to have the barrel changed eventually. Thankfully 308 will last you about twice as long as 6.5 creedmoor

Around 5-6k rounds for 308 until you start losing accuracy

Still serviceable past that though
