Thats fair, hot loaded rounds are going to decrease your life expectancy severely. But your standard nato loads wont ruin anything faster than normal

Some will even say it's time to change after 2000 rounds but they're competition shooters so extreme accuracy matters more

I change my competition barrels after 5k. But im also running my handloads on the bleeding edge of safe to squeeze performance

Anyone ever buy 556 incendiary rounds? Any idea if they store as long as regular ammo? They are legal in my state.

I'd assume they store fine as long as they stay dry but expect their effectiveness to decrease over time same as with explosive and tracers, it won't be noticible for a long time however

Canceled my optics planet order. I found a guy who custom makes buffers and they do a5 sizes as well. They normally do heavy stuff but they had a light one in stock.

From everything I've heard... vltor a5. Another good option is the jp captured buffer though it adds a little weight to your rifle

The jp captured spring reduces felt recoil, smooths out the impulse, makes the rifle easier to take down, and doesn't make sproing sounds. The vltor a5 is also supposed to smooth out and decrease recoil. It takes a special buffer but uses regular rifle length springs. It also gives you an extra position with adjustable stocks.

In the build I'm working on right now, I've got an a5 buffer tube, a geissele braided rifle spring that also eliminates sound and is supposed to be more durable.

With a captured spring or vltor a5 and an adjustable gas block, you can make an 11.5" shoot smoother than an 18" with a regular buffer and gas block

Don’t need longbois if you use good ammo. Pushing hollow points at 3050 out of my 12”, and 3200+ out of my 16”

I never use good ammo for training unless it's longer range. Paper doesn't care how fast your bullet is traveling in cqb training. What you should probably do is buy some good ammo in bulk, then shoot a mag of it to make sure your rifle won't malfunction. Then keep it stored in mags and use your cheap shit like wolf gold for training.

If you're shooting something alive, say varmint like coyotes and burglars, you'll want good ammo. 5.56 gets its lethality from fragmentation and velocity assuming it penetrates enough. The reason good ammo is so expensive is because it's designed to fragment really well.

Also to be accurate but that's also a result of having better tolerances

Yea most modern defensive Ammo has a very wide range of velocity’s that they have great expansion/frag at. Vs like m855 being completely at the mercy of its velocity

I just looked up a ballistic gel test for xm556 fbit3 and damn, penetration for days with some good expansion

17.6" of penetration, 61gr retained weight. Not as violently expanding as stuff like 75gr boat tail hollow point, but it travels faster

17.6" of pen might be a tiny bit excessive for two legged meat bags

Steel has limitations when it comes to velocity too. 55gr fired from a 20" barrel, or similarly fast rounds will blow right through

Just the way the material acts. Steel dosent hand the velocity and add velocity to a bonded round and it will punch through

Just stick your carrier in the backpack, most of them will fit pretty easily in a normal sized pack
